ThermoWorks Releases New Thermapen Mk4
Super-Fast Thermapen Mk4 is Now Intuitive with Auto-rotating Display, Intelligent Backlight, Motion-Sensing Sleep Mode & Increased Water Resistance
The Super-Fast Thermapen cooking thermometer, heralded by the world’s top professional kitchens and discerning home cooks alike for its speed and accuracy, is about to receive a major upgrade—its first in five years. The latest release from ThermoWorks, the Thermapen Mk4, builds on the most loved features of the Thermapen and introduces some remarkable new ones. It’s a smart thermometer with automatic features so you can focus on your food, not the device.

You open the probe to turn it on. We’ve followed that logic with all of our new design improvements so that the features are there when you need them but you never have to think about them. The new Thermapen Mk4 is the first handheld thermometer, for example, to feature an accelerometer, the same device used in smartphones like the iPhone to detect motion and determine the orientation of the screen.
Key Mk4 improvements include:
- Patented auto-rotating display. Hold the Thermapen Mk4 in either hand or any angle and the display intuitively flips right-side up. Switch hands whithout cocking your head.
- Intelligent backlight. The Mk4 knows when it’s dark and runs on the backlight for you, making it easy to read at dusk or complete darkness while preserving battery life. Touch the light sensor window anytime with your finger and the display lights up to improve visibility at the back of the stove or when reaching into an oven.
- Motion-sensing sleep mode. Set your Thermapen Mk4 down during use, it shuts off and sleep mode saves battery life. Pick the Mk4 up, it comes on instantly and stays on while in your hand.
- Now waterproof to IP67. Improved water resistance against spills and wet kitchens.
- Battery life extended up to 3,000 hours. Depending on backlight usage, battery life has gone from 1,500 to 3,000 hours. The motion-sensing sleep mode and light-sensing backlight mean fewer battery changes. When you do change the battery, use a common AAA battery.
As with the previous version of the Thermapen, it’s easy-to-use, quick display can accurately measure temperatures from -58° to 572° F within 0.7 of a degree in 3 seconds or less.
What’s more, with the release of the new Thermapen Mk4, ThermoWorks will still retain the previous version of the Thermapen in its product line at a reduced price. Says Owen, “The regular Super-Fast Thermapen is a remarkable device, and at a lower price point, it should expand the reach of these professional quality tools in home kitchens.”
