Two professional instruments in one!
Thermapen IR combines the unparalleled speed and accuracy of a Classic Thermapen with the versatility of an instrument-grade infrared sensor for instant non-contact surface readings. Why carry two different thermometers when you can just carry the Thermapen IR?
- Adjustable emissivity infrared from 0.1 to 1.0
- Patented auto-rotating display
- Max/Min infrared displays
- Foldaway thermocouple probe
- High accuracy probe to ±0.7°F (±0.4°C)
- Probe readings in only 2-3 seconds
- Motion-sensing sleep & wake mode
- Includes Polygiene Biomaster silver ion technology to reduce microbial growth
- Display temps in °C or °F, 1 or 0.1° resolution
- Includes NIST-Traceable calibration certificate
- IP54 (not waterproof)
View both infrared and penetration probe readings from either hand in any position with Thermapen IR's patented 360° auto-rotating display. In Probe mode, set the unit down, and Sleep Mode saves battery life. Pick it up, and it turns on automatically. Close the probe when you're done and it powers off for storage. Each unit ships with a NIST-traceable calibration certificate for both the probe and infrared so you know it's accurate.
Thermapen IR is a must-have, versatile tool for restaurants, health inspectors, manufacturing, laboratory, and more.
Infrared thermometer
Take non-contact infrared readings from virtually any surface with Thermapen IR's precision infrared circuitry. Simply aim the infrared end of the thermometer at the target and press the Scan button to display the surface temperature, accurate to within ±1.8°F (±1.0°C).
The Thermapen IR thermometer incorporates a Max/Min reading feature accessed through the Mode button (IR only). The distance-to-target ratio is 5:1, so the thermometer should be positioned as close to the target as possible. The default emissivity is 0.95, but can be adjusted between 0.1 and 1.0 as needed through the Mode button.
Please Note: Because the unit needs an opening to allow infrared wavelengths to fall upon the infrared sensor inside the housing, the Thermapen IR does not have the same Splash-Proof rating that other Thermapen's have and should be kept away from splashes and spills. See more about caring for your Thermapen IR.
Penetration probe
Incorporating the Thermapen Super-Fast® thermocouple technology, penetration measurements come to a reading accurate to ±0.7°F (±0.4°C) within just 2-3 seconds. The probe conveniently folds back into the side of the instrument for safe storage when not in use.
Thermapen IR incorporates a motion-sensing sleep mode (penetration probe only) which automatically turns the instrument on/off when set down or picked up, maximizing battery life.
Thermapen IR comes with a NIST-traceable calibration certificate confirming the accuracy of both sensors.
BUT, it is very disappointing that the screen is not back lit (does say it is not online). It definitely makes it harder to read under certain conditions.
The rotating screen at times can be awkward to read.
It's 2X the price as a classic Thermapen, it has the weakest warranty ThermoWorks offers (2 years instead of 5), it's not at all waterproof, and bizarrely, it has no backlight which is a pain when you want to take a temperature from inside an oven or similar. It was my fault for not researching all of this prior to buying, but this is still a 2-star product due to cost and major compromises (why not backlight at least? That makes no sense!). The weak warranty shows that Thermoworks themselves don't trust this product.
This left me thinking - who exactly is this for? It's basically their oldest (now outdated) Thermapen mashed together with an IR, but at twice the price as a Classic? Just get a Thermapen Classic/One and spend the $20-30 for a separate IR thermometer. For this price, it should be equivalent to a Thermapen One, but have IR. This also has the slower 3-second read times.
Two essential types of sensors in the same package, with unparalleled speed and accuracy that only a Thermoworks product can deliver.
