Mo' Bettahs and ThermoWorks

Meet Mo' Bettahs

Built by two bus drivers from a little island in Hawaii, Mo’ Bettahs serves up the kind of meals you’d want to come home to after a long day of island driving. It’s a place that peels back the layers of grass hula skirts and fake flower leis to reveal what Hawaii is really about: community. This mindset goes beyond the customer experience and into employee culture. Everyone is family. Everyone is Ohana.

“... we really just want you to feel like you're at your friend's house, having a barbecue with a bunch of people you've known your entire life.” —John Konyn, Director of Operations

Looking for Solutions

Mo’ Bettahs had a problem on their hands. A good problem. They were growing rapidly and needed to start thinking like a big company with big solutions. First, they wanted to increase speed and efficiency during service. They also wanted to get rid of the paper log clutter and find a more efficient way to log critical temp data to ensure food safety.

“With a manual thermometer, you’re basically deciding whether food is done temping or not. It takes time. You’re leaving a lot of room for human error.” —John Konyn, Director of Operations

Smooth Sailing with ThermoWorks

Enter ThermoWorks. The VP of Food and Beverage for Mo’ Bettahs, a past culinary instructor at UVU (a local university), took a look at Mo ’Bettahs’ cheap food thermometers and saw an opportunity for an upgrade. For speed and efficiency during service, they traded in their generic dial thermometer for a Thermapen Mk4. Then they went paperless using Thermapen Blue to digitally log all HACCP food temperatures. And because of ThermoWorks’ intuitive features and design, training employees on the new system was a breeze.

“The Thermapen Blue works so quickly and is easy to use. Once temperature data is collected, it can be stored digitally so that at any given time, temp logs can be pulled up within moments.” —John Konyn, Director of Operations

Speaking about our Commercial Sales Manager - “Brian went in and took everything that we would need to temp, everything that we would need to keep track of. He created a catalog for us...so that literally all we had to do was get on the iPad in the store, download the app, and then it was ready to go.”
—Maryam Chaney, VP of Food and Beverage
